Highway Authorities

Many highway authorities, particularly the smaller unitary authorities, are woefully under-resourced for carrying out their growing remit of public rights of way and countryside access administration and management. Land Access can help make good the shortfall; for example, by taking on a particular function such as processing public path orders, undertaking BVPI 178 surveys or carrying out specific projects such as a feasibility study for a disabled access route or developing a rights of way improvement plan.

Of course, it is not only the highway authority that is involved with rights of way and countryside access; borough, district, town and parish councils all have discretionary powers to carry out improvements. Many local councils are also land owners in their own right. Land Access can help local councils to make the best of their statutory powers and to protect the interests of their constituents.

Land Access can help local authorities with;

  • Footpath and countryside access improvements in their areas
  • Feasibility studies
  • BVPI 178 surveys
  • Maintenance and repair schemes — design and contract management
  • Development of promoted routes, including design and construction; writing, design and printing of promotional material; and user surveys & monitoring schemes
  • DMMO and PPO processes
  • Definitive map consolidation
  • Rights of Way Improvement Plans
  • Disability Discrimination Act assessments
  • User surveys and monitoring

With more than 15 years experience of working with local authorities; we can help with your public rights of way or countryside access problem. Contact us at office@landaccess.co.uk.
